About

Founded in 2003, with the aim of setting a new benchmark in the industry by taking a visionary approach to building conservation, our work has seen us breathe new life into many of the UK’s iconic buildings and landmarks.

By combining art, craft and technology to preserve and prolong the life of our heritage assets, we have transformed the way we approach restoration and building conservation, ensuring that historic buildings are not only preserved in their original splendour, but are also adapted for future generations to enjoy and utilise.

We have known Bullen Conservation since the day it started trading and have undertaken a number of contracts with them over the years on some important Historic Buildings. They were recently the Main Contractor on the Astley Hall repair works that has just been awarded an RICS North West Heritage Award. We have always found them easy to communicate with and they in turn have provided well judged conservation repair advice, where opinions are useful on the discovery of difficult repairs. Building Conservation is often work for the artisan and for a medium sized contractor, Bullen Conservation have always worked comfortably with knowledgeable subcontractors and time served in-house staff. We always enjoy working with them.

— Geoff Maybank, Maybank Building Conservation LLP

Bullen Conservation have been working on our Grade 1 Harris Museum site for over a year now and we have been very impressed with their professional approach to the extensive stone conservation work they have completed. Their approach to Health and Safety has been exemplary and they have provided first class training for apprentice stonemasons throughout their time on the project, which is of particular importance to our company as we hold social value in high regard.

We pride ourselves on the high quality of our extensive heritage delivery portfolio, which would not be possible without the time-served dedication and professionalism of companies such as Bullens, which are few and far between.

We would not hesitate to recommend Bullens on future projects.

— Neil Conlon, Conlon Construction.

They’re a very well-managed and well-structured company.  I particularly like the way they fitted in so well alongside myself and the others working on the project.  There’s a no ‘us’ and ‘them’ with Bullen Conservation

— Malcolm Ellis, Aedas Building Surveys Ltd

They’re an excellent team to work with, not least on the kinds of projects where you don’t know what kind of problems you’ll uncover as you go.  They’re experienced and flexible enough to cope with the unexpected – calmly and in a professional way.  They’re also extraordinarily nice people to work with, which in my book counts for a lot.

— Graham Holland, Graham Holland Associates

The job called for genuine craftsmen capable of working to a highly detailed specification. I had no hesitation in recommending Bullen Conservation.

I knew from experience that they had both the skills and the attitude needed to do a superb job, and they did.

Peter Harrison – Stone Consultant

Bullen Conservation undertook major repairs to Christ Church West Didsbury, a Grade II Listed Building, over a period of 5 years.  The cost of the repairs and renovations to the roof and rainwater goods was upwards of £600,000,  and was undertaken in three phases.

They were just brilliant to deal with, keeping us informed of progress every step of the way in language we could easily understand, and regular site meetings ensured we knew exactly what was going on.  We were also fortunate to have the knowledge of superb Architect and the support of English Heritage,  and together they guided us through the process, making what could have been extremely stressful more easy to cope with.  They ensured the building remained ‘useable’ throughout, which was extremely important to us.

From Mike and Steve to the lads who were onsite week in week out, the service they provided was second to none.  The sub-contractors they employed for some aspects of the work were also very professional and easy of deal with, and I was always confident the job would be completed to the highest possible standard.

The end result was all that we could have hoped for and ensured that our much loved church can be enjoyed by future generations.
