We’re thrilled that the project to conserve Astley Hall won the heritage award at the 2024 RICS Awards on Tuesday. Led by Maybank Building Conservation LLP, the ambitious undertaking aimed at preserving the legacy of the magnificent 400 year old Grade I listed building will ensure it remains a vibrant part of the Lancashire community for generations to come.
As Principal Contractor, we had to address several critical aspects of Astley Hall, including its structural integrity, improving the building’s accessibility, as well as ensuring any works undertaken maintained its historical accuracy and authenticity.
As work commenced we aided in the detailed assessment of the building’s condition before a comprehensive restoration plan was developed. We then addressed all immediate structural issues before embarking on a phase of works to carefully restore or replicate the building’s features using traditional materials and techniques. Throughout the project we involved the local community through workshops, tours and educational programmes to create significant social value for the people of Chorley, whilst incorporating sustainable practices to minimise the environmental impact and ensure the hall’s long-term preservation.
The RICS Awards showcase the most inspirational initiatives and developments in land, real estate, construction and infrastructure. We are thrilled the judges have recognised the outstanding achievement, teamwork and supply chain involved in the conservation of Astley Hall.
