Scope of Works
The Grand Theatre Blackpool, often referred to as “Blackpool’s hidden gem,” is celebrated for its gilded moldings, proscenium arch and striking Cupola, which is one of the most striking features of the theatre’s exterior, holding a prominent place in Blackpool’s skyline .
Bullen Conservation has undertaken several restoration projects over the years to safeguard the theatre’s historical significance and were thrilled to be invited back to undertake a series of crucial repair and restoration works to the building’s external facade and the iconic Cupola, including repair and replacement of damaged stonework and brickwork, restoration of the Victorian iron rainwater goods, render repairs, as well as renew large sections of slate and lead across its two-acre roof.
This project involved some very intricate elements, including the delicate application of gold leaf to the iconic Grand Theatre sign. Through meticulous attention to detail and a strong work ethic, the team delivered to an outstanding standard.
The essential restoration work was supported by a £450,000 grant from Arts Council England’s Capital Investment Programme.
