Scope of Works
53 King Street in Manchester is a striking example of Edwardian Baroque architecture, designed by renowned architect Charles Heathcote and opened in 1913. Located in the heart of Manchester’s historic King Street, this Grade II listed building has long been a key feature of the city’s architectural landscape.
Bullen Conservation was appointed as Principal Contractor to manage the conservation and refurbishment of 53 King Street. As a high-profile site in Manchester City Centre, the project required skilled masonry specialists and experience of working in busy urban environments.

Our work involved extensive Portland stone cleaning, replacement, and repointing, along with joinery, leadwork, and redecoration. To meet the client’s vision for new restaurant spaces on the ground floor, we carried out major structural alterations while maintaining the building’s original charm. We also managed specialist sub-contractors for scaffolding, glazing, shopfronts, railings, and more.
Delivering this project successfully was all about collaboration – working closely with the client, design team and all trades involved to ensure both quality craftsmanship and careful planning in a challenging city centre location.
53 King Street now stands refreshed and revitalised, ready for its next chapter while retaining its iconic heritage.
