The initial phase involves a thorough assessment of the mosaic’s condition, including identifying damages such as missing or loose tiles, cracks, discoloration, or underlying structural issues. Our team would then document their findings, including taking photographs and producing drawings, which help to guide the restoration process. A thorough clean to remove accumulated dirt, grime and biological growth would then be undertaken before we consolidate loose tiles, secure unstable sections and inject adhesives or grout to stabilise and reinforce the mosaic. When repairing or replacing tiles, our team make every effort to match the original materials, colours, techniques as closely as possible to maintain the artwork’s authenticity and historical integrity.
After the restoration, we apply protective measures to safeguard the mosaic from future damage. This can include applying sealants, installing protective barriers, or adjusting environmental conditions like humidity and temperature control in indoor settings.
